With the effortless assistance of Global Design Distribution, Gufram, the Italian design brand known worldwide for carrying on the spirit of Radical Design, is proud to announce the opening of its first gallery in China. The space, located in the B1 area of the Taikoo Li mall in Sanlitun, welcomes visitors to an astonishing surreal setting featuring both historical and contemporary Radical Design icons.

The new Gufram Gallery in Beijing celebrates the history of the brand as well as its contemporary radical creations through a set up designed as a metaphysical Italian porched square. Arches and columns create a surreal setting where the brand’s domestic sculpture can be exalted on pedestals, like actual sculptures.

The concept behind the architecture of the store is idea of an ever-changing setting: although the real protagonists of the store are the pieces themselves, changing every three months, the architecture of the store will be adapted accordingly, using colours and graphics to enrich the walls and floors, while a central stage will host performances and events.

The first set up presented in Beijing features Gufram’s most renowned icons through which the brand enhances the contemporaneity of Radical Design through an innovative and out-of-the-box approach to the theme.

“It is a great achievement for Gufram to open its first gallery in Beijing”, says Charley Vezza, Global Creative Orchestrator of the brand.“Our relationship with the Chinese market has helped me put in perspective the role of Radical Design in our times. China is one of the fastest economies and one of the fastest societies I know! But, in spite of all this, Chinese culture has a very interesting conception of time and what we, in Europe, perceive as‘historical’can still be considered contemporary. Radical Design is 50 years old, but in China age doesn’t matter so much. I am so curious of seeing how our shop will be perceived in 50 years from now…I hope I will still be around to see it!”.
